On most modern cars the door lock is a combined mechanical and electrical unit: a latch engages the striker on the pillar, while a small built-in motor handles central locking. Typical signs of failure are a door that ignores the remote, will not latch shut, only opens after several pulls on the handle, or shows as open on the dashboard even when closed, which usually means a faulty microswitch inside the lock.
Check the position (for example front left), the number of pins on the connector and the OE number on the lock housing. The same model can use different locks depending on year and equipment, so your VIN helps us confirm the right one.
