A torsion bar is a spring in the form of a steel rod working in torsion. On many Renault and PSA cars of the 1990s and 2000s it replaces coil springs at the rear, anchored at one end in the axle and at the other in the trailing arm. A tired bar lets the rear sag, leaves one side lower than the other and makes the suspension bottom out under load. Breakages are rare but leave the car visibly leaning.
Bars are specific to the left or right side and must not be swapped, and their diameter and length vary by version. Compare the OE number or send us your VIN. The spline position set during fitting determines the ride height.
