The clutch disconnects the engine from the gearbox when you pull away and change gear. The friction plate wears gradually: the first warning is a pedal that bites high, then the clutch slips under load and revs rise faster than road speed. Judder when pulling away, difficulty selecting gears, a whirring bearing with the pedal pressed or fluid leaking from the master or slave cylinder point to other parts of the system.
Match the part by OE number, engine code and gearbox type, and check whether the car has a solid or a dual mass flywheel. Clutch diameter can vary within one model, so sending your VIN is the safest route.
