The rear beam ties the rear wheels together and keeps them correctly aligned. French cars use either a twist beam on rubber-metal bushes or a beam with trailing arms on needle bearings, sprung by torsion bars, as on the Peugeot 206 and Partner. Worn bushes cause knocks, a vague rear end in corners and uneven tyre wear, while worn trailing-arm bearings make the rear wheels lean in at the top.
